I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

If water is leaking, turn the water off at the nearest service valve and then at the mains tap outside. If you can’t locate the main shutoff valve or a tap to the fixture, then turn on all the cold faucets inside and out to help depressurise the system and minimise the leak.

Once that’s sorted, give us a call, whatever the day or time is. We’ll be there promptly to resolve the problem.

While waiting, clear away any significant items from the area, and clean up any water or position a bucket to catch the drips. If you turned the mains water off, switch off the heating for the hot water as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.

Remember, many appliances and fixtures have their own isolating taps also.
